Well, at least this was better than The Perils of Pursuing a Prince, but not by much I actually liked the theme about the heroine s talent in designing and sewing women s clothes, and the blackmail threat to expose Phoebe to the scorn of the ton was very realistic, so I had no problem accepting that premise My problem was with the behaviors of the two main characters Will couldn t see that his attempts to seduce a widowed, defenseless seamstress were reprehensible than the sexual habits of a fe [...]
3.5 stars I m glad I read this series until the end, otherwise I would have missed Phoebe s story I believe her storyline is the most interesting one I got hooked in the first pages and couldn t put it down until I reached the very last one Lady Phoebe Fairchild, daughter of the Late Earl of Bingley, sister to the Marchioness of Middleton and cousin to the Princess of Powys, is being blackmailed by her ruthless employer, Mrs Ramsey, into working as Madame Dupree, a fake identity Phoebe had creat [...]
IMO this was the weakest book of the series I love London s writing because she usually writes a big part of the book from the hero s POV, which didn t happen here That left Will kind of a stranger for me, plus I didn t really like the way he pressed an employee of his into an illicit relationship No matter how mutual the attraction was, her initial response was No and I believe pressing, even gently, someone who s financially dependant and in lower social standing than yourself, is not proper h [...]
Lady Phoebe Fairchild is a great modiste She can fashion clothes that everyone admires, however since she is a part of a society which rules dictate you cannot have a profession and be a part of the ton she is pretending to be Madame Dupree However she is blackmailed to go to a country estate and fashion dresses for two young ladies or she will get exposed So she travels to the estate of William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield to make dresses for his two sisters who are going to be coming out [...]
The last book of the trilogy, where Lady Phoebe Fairchild finds her own happily ever after.Being blackmailed into working as Madame Dupree by her unscrupulous employer, Phoebe finds herself in William Darby, Viscount of Summerfield s estate, where she is designing ball gowns for his unruly sisters, while learning first hand how life is as a servant.William has just returned from his extensive travels around the world to find his home in shambles, his father infirm and unable to talk and his sibl [...]
A good book, but not quite as good as the first Julia London book I happened upon so I m rounding down I liked the characters, the situation was plausible, and the romance was passionate I like the way that London brings family into her stories or at least, we re 2 for 2 on that trait Brothers, sisters, ailing fathers there were relationships here than just the main romance and it all played into the plot My main reservations was that I thought the plot was a bit flat, especially towards the en [...]
I loathe, loathe the mistaken identity theme Mind you I knew what I was getting into before I read the book But my reason for it reading the was the author I love her books, and I thought that maybe, just maybe, I wouldn t be put off by the theme My mistake It bothered me a lot.I found that the whole masquerade mistaken identity in this book, was overly done She could have told her secret at any point, in my opinion But it continued until, well you guessed it, someone recognized her, and then th [...]
I liked this one better than the average, most of my usual frustrations with romance novels occurred not caring about propriety, the difficult angry siblings or children, the hero being ridiculously unreasonable about something silly but were resolved in a believable and satisfying way The hero actually REALIZED he was being unreasonable and apologized Also, for once a series like this didn t make me feel like all the characters from the previous books were simply tacked on In the first Desperat [...]
3 StarsLady Phoebe gets blackmailed by the women she secretly works for into working as a seamstress under the name of Madame Dupree for William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield s rowdy siblings She didn t expect to fall in love with Will or to become so attached to his family, but as the lies she really had no choice of spinning starts spiraling out of control she s in a place was she s never been Lost.Honestly there really isn t anything spectacular or unique about this book or the character [...]
I did like this book, but there were times when it dragged on to let everyone know how wrong it is to judge people by the way they look There was a long drawn out chapter ll about it, of which I could not see happening But that is just me Also the end of the book, it was too HEA Almost cheesy And the ending interlude talking through it was a little much I never got a good feel for the hero character I think some of the characters needed development I cant say I liked or disliked anyone.
I was MUCH pleased with this book I loved Lady Phoebe and Will Those HELLIONS that Will called siblings deserved a good ole fashioned butt whipping They were horrible but I loved Phoebe s responses to their shenanigans I had a good feeling about Phoebe in book 1 and I was right Hands down, the best in the series 4.5
I m glad this series ended on a high note This book was definitely the best of bunch Phoebe was my favorite of Fairchild ladies I also liked Will, although I thought could have been done with his character Overall, this series was a little disappointing.
Nada del otro mundo, la verdad fue el que menos me gusto de la serie, hubiera podido ser tan divertido Pero vale la pena leerlo para saber la historia de Phone
Pheobe is the last single one She has been helping supporting her sister and cousin with her sewing Now she doesn t need to because they hae both married But the person who has been selling her dresses forces her into going to an estate in the country to make clothing for the viscount s sisters They develop a relationship but he doesn t want to marry a seamstress and she is afraid to tell him the truth Nice ending to the series
Will and Phoebe I didn t care for him overly much He seduced her and then every time he saw her in public, he was awful to her The hidden identity was a bit overdone, she could have told him who she was a lot sooner and then his response was over the top considering he wasn t respectful of her to begin with.
muy entretenido, un libro para pasar el rato
Un libro lleno de alegr a, situaciones complicadas, situaciones m s complicadas a n y un muy lindo romance contra todo pron stico.Me ha encantado, genial final para la trilog a
Would have been a 3 , but for the jerk H foolish h A lot can be excused in the name of Love, but you can t be too stupid never learn from mistakes.
This is a great read I LOVE Julia London books.
I am going to state once that I am not fond of the big misunderstanding plot device I always tell myself I won t read the whole mess but just skip over it and finish the story I never do skip ahead though, first it becomes like watching an accident you just can t seem to look away and second you never know what may be important that will be tucked away in the oncoming drama This story is one of those plots.William Darby, Viscount of Summerfield, has come home to assume his duties as heir to his [...]
I read this a while ago, so I can t remember everything that happened, but it was really good She gets sent to Summerfield s home where he s just gotten back from galavanting around the globe because his father is very ill and he needs to take care of the estate and his younger siblings 2 sisters and a brother, I believe His siblings are practically heathens, and Phoebe is supposed to be designing and sewing dresses for the sisters.Phoebe poses as a widow and she and Summerfield end up falling f [...]
Jesus Almight, how I ve hated this lord Summerfield is by far the most self assured caracter that I ever seen and all the do you know with whom you are talking to maked me sick in so many levels throught the book that I was pleading that Phoebe get back to London and let this bastard alone Ugh The end is beautiful, but predictable Maybe if Phoebe had dropped the commission and in some way Summerfield chase her in London and WOW YOU ARE MADAME DUPREE and then discovered that she was a lady it wou [...]
Historical English romance with a well born lady that wants to be in trade as a high fashion seamstress who finds love the another titled Lord who mistakes her for a light skirted seamstress instead of a innocent noble lady.Lady Phoebe Fairchild has been making money as the modiste, Madame Dupree and she is being blackmailed to make a wardrobe for Lord William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield s young sisters who will be coming out that season Lord William makes mistakes, lots of them, but alwa [...]
I remember the horror of this book quite clearly The book was too appalling that it kept me from reading any books by the author I was initially happy for this book as an object for relaxation that ended with the opposite results After I was done I had to go out of my apartment at dawn to buy my favorite cheeseburger to refresh my mood Phoebe is a good woman though a bit docile at times and the viscount does not particularly deserve her He is, everything similar to an arse.Almost a year later an [...]
So I started reading this thinking it was book 1 instead of book 3 In all honesty I didn t even realize until the story was over and starting Book 2 that I went in the wrong direction Oh well I really enjoyed this for the romance novel it was It is historically set, but I found it was loosely constricted in its setting The bounds of propriety are very, very loosely bound If you give some leeway on this point you should find it a very pleasant read. There are some detailed intimate scenes, which [...]
I Loved reading the Desperate Debutantes series, each novel in this series has an amazing story line with amazing characters Each novel is different but each includes characters from the other novel Julia London has got to be the best romance author out here at this time None of her novels are the same and their are stories within stories Her novels are very sensual, which for myself this is what a romance novels should be about, it nothing slutty but its Hot and it makes you wish you were on th [...]
I was severely disappointed in this book Summerfield s siblings were mean and spiteful, not engaging characters whatsoever I understand the importance of conflict and drama, but to have an entire family of abusive, mean, and spiteful people does not make good reading When Summerfield s sister Alice hit Phoebe, I almost threw the book into the recycling bin But I chugged on By the end, I was furious at Summerfield To dismiss his servant Frieda, blaming her for sleeping around and getting pregnant [...]
