I bought this for my niece then when she outgrew it my nephew picked it up He generally doesn t like books with female protagonists but Nancy was different I suspect it has to do with the focus on sports He also worries about his limitations on the sports field and I like how this book dealt with them, not to mention the responsible mature way to deal with a bully Lets hope that piece of advice sticks Overall a sweat book with sweatier lessons for children all the while helping them read due to [...]

Lucky me My library doesn t have this but this brand new book slipped through and was sent via our LINK sister library system, something that wouldn t normally happen until 2012 I feel very fortunate that I didn t have to wait to read this one. This is another wonderful Fancy Nancy book.On the back cover and on the page before the title page, it s shown that this is a I can read 1 book, the second easiest after my first shared reading up to 4, a total of 5 levels I think this is an advanced 1, gi [...]

We ve read most of the books in the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser and have really enjoyed them We discovered this book at our local library today and since it was one that we hadn t yet read, we read it right there and then It s a good story about trying your hardest and good sportsmanship I like that it has a somewhat realistic ending and that Nancy is aware of her limitations I made sure to let our girls know that even if you aren t the fastest, you can still enj [...]

Love how Nancy handled the mean girl

    Lynda

A great lesson in sportsmanship Of course there are the usual adorable illustrations and vivacious little Nancy entertaining along the way.

    Rebecca

Fancy Nancy is often a hit here This one had a good lesson about trying your best even when you re not very good at something It had a good lesson on dealing with bad sports.

Fancy Nancy is a girl in elementary school who is afraid to let her relay team down on field day She remembers from last year that she is not a very good runner and it just so happens that a girl on her team remembers too Afraid of being bullied, Nancy decides to fake a foot injury to get out of field day It seemed to be working until her dad admitted that he saw her switch the foot that was hurting her a couple times Nancy confessed that she was worried about the girl from her team bullying her [...]

One of many beginning reader books in the Fancy Nancy series, Fancy Nancy and the Mean Girl addresses bullying, fear of failure, and learning how to stand up for oneself Nancy is chosen for the relay team in the school s yearly field day After last years ghastly performance, Nancy is certain she will cause the team to lose again this year A mean girl in class perpetuates Nancy s fears and brings her to the point of giving up without even trying Luckily Nancy s dad steps in and saves the day by g [...]

    White House Public Library

This was my first Fancy Nancy book I ve read It went right along with our summer reading theme of fitness sports What s really great about this book is that it teaches kids fancy words, as Nancy calls them, such as dread sob and what they mean The story also teaches about teasing and if you can t say anything nice, don t say anything at all After feeling like she ll let her team down in the Field Day race because she caused her team to lose the year before and mean girl Grace is on her team this [...]

I LOVE this book Of all the Fancy Nancy series that we ve read, this one is the best Fancy Nancy is not a fast runner She admits this to herself And then she practices running diligently to become faster, and it doesn t work She still is not fast She gets put on a team with a girl who is very fast, and who was very mean last year when they were on a team together and lost because Fancy Nancy is so slow The girl is mean again But Fancy Nancy is ready for her Fancy Nancy is not rude She is not mea [...]

It was lucky for me when I found a sort of chapter book version of Fancy Nancy Perfect for first graders and me of course Fancy Nancy and the Mean Girl emphasized how you need to stand up for yourself instead of letting someone make you feel like you are less I forgot how much Nancy is into vocabulary so I got a surprise with all of her fancy new words The plot was one that anyone can relate too although, I don t like the idea that Nancy gave up when she practiced running all week and found no i [...]

Fancy Nancy is dreading a word she ll explain Field Day She s not a good runner, and is worried that she ll make her team lose the relay race And on her team, there s a mean girl who says unkind another vocabulary word things about Nancy s abilities How will Nancy cope By trying her hardest and taking a bully to task I ve yet to dislike a Fancy Nancy book I ve picked up, and this keeps the standard high.

    Little Miss and the Legomeister

Little Miss loves Fancy Nancy I m not very fancy myself, but I love her sweet exuberance and the interactions between her and her not so fancy family I love that she sticks up for herself, and also that she doesn t magically become a better runner because that would solve a problem for her in the story It s a fun book.

    Tricia

Good for the strong appeal of the Fancy Nancy character that will encourage girls to read and expand their vocabulary with this title Nancy is not a good runner and dreads field day Will it turn out awful as she expects with her classmate Grace, a strong runner who is her partner for the relay team

This book is directed towards young girls for sure The story line is great, and it is easy to follow, but even from just looking at it you can tell that a girl would enjoy it There are bigger words in the book that teaches vocabulary which is great.

    Dana

Worthwhile plot idea, but maybe not enough time to resolve it to my liking Nancy basically tells off the mean girl about making fun of her Nancy s lack of running prowess and then they end up friends after they lose the race.

    Jess Doyle

I really liked this book and I think it could turn into a good lesson for elementary students about being kind to others, and about how everyone has different talents Also, I think it would be fun to read to the class before track and field day.

    Weisser

Great introduction to bullying and how to stand up for yourself Nancy loves using fancy words but find it necessary to use plain words to speak up for herself She gains a new friend and learns it is okay not to win as long as you try and give it your best shot

    Ruth

I like how Nancy was able to face her bully and overcome her fear of what others think about her Nancy s parents were also very supportive and understanding of her fears and worries I think this book is great for parents and children.

    Nancy Jo Lambert

So recently, my daughter has become extremely interested in Fancy Nancy So, we have been reading some of the Fancy Nancy series This series is lots of fun and all the heart warming moments are a nice touch to the rather flouncy, fancy moments.

    Shelli

Even though Miss Nancy is fa nominal that s fancy for great at many things, racing is not one of them When a mean girl wants to make Nancy feel bad she has to find away to still participate in all the fun and not let mean spirited people get her down.

    Kathryn

The book handles the mean girl in a very mature, adult way The kids liked all of the new words of course.

    Becky

Fancy Nancy wants to run a relay but is scared that she will come in last and get teased.
